Monastery of the Virgin of Asclepius Rhodes. Click to enlarge the image.In the village center, the Byzantine church of the Dormition of the Virgin (1060), dedicated to the Mother of God (Theotokou), is decorated with Byzantine frescoes interesting (photographs are forbidden).

Castle of Asclepius
At the top of the hill, the castle of Asclepius (twelfth century) stands the ruins. The castle is not the work of the Knights of St John : it was built around 1200 by the Byzantines.

Medieval fortifications seem to always protect the village and offer a beautiful view of the beach from Kiotari in Gennadi .

In Greek mythology, Asclepius is in the Homeric epic, a Thessalian hero then, in the classical period, the god of medicine. It corresponds to the Roman Aesculapius. Its main attribute is the caduceus, a staff around which is wound a snake, now the symbol of medicine.
