A symbolic line, drawn between Monolithos and Lindos , separates the north from the southern tip of Rhodes , opening on a region more arid and wild, rugged landscape of steep cliffs and plateaus peeled here and there crowned by the ruins of fortresses haughty knights . A region whose austere beauty has nothing to envy to the north of the island, but which, nevertheless, remains outside of the tourist flow (except Lindos).
The southwest coast is too windy to be frequented by tourists. It offers miles of pristine beaches. Bay Apolakkia remained wild. Monastery Skiadi , 11 km, has an interesting collection of icons including a miraculous icon of the Virgin.
Only all-terrain vehicles can venture into this sector, due to the very bad roads.
The church Kattavia has frescoes and niches contain ancient sculptures.
