| General information | The Tropical Garden of Assembles De luxe hotel (Jardim Tropical da Quinta do Assembles De luxe hotel) shelters innumerable species of plants and flowers, of which some exist only in Madeira, of the lakes and the fountains, the Eastern temples and splendid old panels of azulejos.The alleys of the garden were decorated with blazons, works out of stones of size, windows, sculptures, niches, pagodas, Buddhas and lanterns out of rough or worked stone. |

| | History | At the end of the 18th century, the English Consul, Charles Murray, bought a field in the south of the church of Monte and transformed it into a beautiful farm, called “Quinta do Prazer” (“Field of the Pleasure”).In 1897, Alfredo Guilherme Rodrigues, acquired the farm and, inspired by the palaces which he had seen on banks of the Rhine, he built a palace to make his residence of it, but, later, transformed it into hotel, under the name of “Assembles De luxe hotel Hotel”. This hotel was snuffed per many important, national and foreign personalities, which appreciated and liked this beautiful retirement with its splendid sight on bay of Funchal and its natural environment. In 1943, Alfredo Guilherme Rodrigues dies, and its family does not continue her work, which leads to the closing of the hotel. An financial institution (Caixa Económica do Funchal) buys the property then, then, in 1987, sells it to the contractor Jose Manuel Rodrigues Berardo (called Joe Gold because it had made fortune in the extraction of gold in South Africa); this one makes gift with the foundation of it that it created and to which it gives its name, the Foundation of Social solidarity Jose Berardo, to install its seat there. Thus is born “Jardim Tropical Assembles De luxe hotel”. The property shelters still today the foundation Jose Berardo, which is also devoted to the safeguard and the safeguarding of works of Article It comprises also a museum and a workshop of restoration. |
