| General information | The gardens of Palheiro Ferreiro, also called Blandy’ S Gardens (gardens of Blandy), reserve a beautiful surprise: it is a true landscaped garden surrounding a residence built at the beginning of the 19th century. One finds there gardens, orchards, cultivated grounds and lakes. The gardens conceal an abundance of exotic flowers, plants and of old trees of the whole world. |

| | History | The quinta do Palheiro was built at the beginning of the 19th century by the first count de Carvalhal, João Esmeraldo; she is regarded as one of largest and most sumptuous the quintas of Madeira. In the first times of this quinta, the count imported species of trees coming from the whole world and it would seem that many rare specimens were offered to him by king D. João VI, like by commanders of its ships. Since 1885 and until today, it is the property of the Blandy family. |
| Characters | Among the famous visitors of the quinta do Palheiro one finds the empress Léopoldine, first woman of Dom Pedro IV of Portugal, the infante Dom Luis, king Dom Carlos of Portugal and Dona Maria Amélia, as well as the prince of Edinburgh. |

The restoration of Casa Velha (old woman house) began in 1995 and it was inaugurated like inn in 1997. |
