The upper part of the municipality, over 1,000 meters above sea level, is in a large protected area classified natural park that includes Laderas de Santa Ursula, Los Organos, the heights of the valley of Güímar and Monte de La Esperanza. This area is of great ecological value.
The entire coast is a protected area named Acantilados del Sauzal and Tacoronte. Beside the beauty and spectacular nature of these cliffs, it is also a refuge area for many seabirds and there are many plant species endemic.
La Matanza de Acentejo is a commune in the north of the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. The region is very fertile and well supplied with water. It includes among other banana plantations and vineyards.
