Oukaïmeden is a Berber village fixed on the mountainside of the same name (Djebel Oukaïmeden) (3 273 m of altitude) which is part of the mountainous chain of the High Atlas.

The village owes its fame at the ski station which developed there.

EtymologyEtymology
Oukaïmeden comes from the Berber expression Ouka Imiden, which means “gives people”.

SituationSituation

The village of Oukaïmeden is located at 74 km of Marrakech to the altitude of 2600 m; one reaches it by the valley of Ourika, then by a rather difficult mountain road.

To leave Marrakech by the door Bab er Rob and to follow the road of very right Ourika towards the mountain. The road skirts the valley of Ourika then of one of its affluents and makes it possible to discover in overhang, of many built villages with mountainside.

After a passage between two monumental walls of marnes red, streaked black castings, one enters in Oukaïmeden.

Ski station of Oukaïmeden
The ski station of Oukaïmeden is most important of Morocco by its equipment (the station highest has the chair-lift of Africa (3 275 m) and six skis-lift) and its snowing up from November to at the end of March. The skiable field of 300 hectares covers the northern slope of Oukaïmeden. Snow is there, normally, abundant.

The place became popular since many years near the easy Morrocans because of his proximity with Marrakech.
