General presentationGeneral information
The Eastern coast of Madeira is sunniest, with the softest climate. The waterways which go down from the mountain formed of the gullies and the small rias where the villages settled. The often sorry landscape keeps the vestiges of the old cultivated terraces. The layout of the coast was slightly modified by the construction of the airport which encroached on the sea.
