. Click to enlarge the image.Ribeira da Janela is a large village of farmers, vis-a-vis three rocks of lava shredded by the waves of which one, cut out to its top in the shape of window (janela), gave its name to the site.

It is near Ribeira da Janela. towards the interior of the island, that extends the area called Fanal, timbered strange trees and ferns. An old crater, transformed into lake, collects rainwater there.

EtymologyEtymology
A rock piton, which has an opening, like an opened window, gave its name to the village of Ribeira da Janela (River of the Window).
